Started the day with breakfast at Steel City Diner. I had a gyro omelette. I happened to sit at the diner counter right next to [livejournal.com profile] mejeep. Both he and I thought we were going to be eating alone but that apparently wasn't to be. :) I didn't have anything planned for the morning so I went to the Dealer's Room to look for Sunday specials. Indeed there was. I got a fox hat from the Furducers. I paid in all singles as usual and they gave me a special "I had exact change!" ribbon. Also, [livejournal.com profile] taren_ told me that he's a Where's George user too. I'm sure there are more than a few of us at Anthrocon.

In the afternoon, I took part in the Fursuit Games (wore the husky fursuit) over at the Convention Center. I was in the green team of about half a dozen teams. In the first game, we had to pass a stack of cans from player to player using just one hand so it was a balancing act. The second game was charades. The whole team got to act out the words for the audience to guess but for most of the words, someone got the answer before I got out there, so it was easy. In the third game, all but 3 of the team were "dying" and we had to carry them to the safe zone to be revived. Since I was bigger, I got to be one of the 3 doing the carrying. I thought this was the hardest game because even with help, it's hard to carry someone. The last game was a mini skit where we were supposed to make the audience laugh. Our idea was to trade costume parts to make everything mismatched. In addition, I went out there with my fursuit head on backwards and someone else in our team wore a Tastykake box. In the end, our team didn't win the games but it was fun to play anyway.

After that, I attended Dr. Kathy Gerbasi's ([livejournal.com profile] drg_kcgerbasi) Furry Survey panel. It was an interesting presentation of the methodology and results of psychological surveys she did at Anthrocon this year and the past few years. After that, I went to the Closing Ceremony. The final count was 3776 attendees from 29 countries and we raised $8992 for this year's charity.

For dinner, [livejournal.com profile] marauderosu and I took the T (subway/trolley line) out to Station Square. We went to Sesame Inn (I got this recommendation from [livejournal.com profile] zyphbear via Twitter just before the convention.) and had Amazing Pork. I thought it was good although the spice had clearly been toned down for the Western palate. Along the way, we ran into a few Pittsburgh locals who had heard of Anthrocon, no doubt from TV news and newspaper coverage in the last few days. We had some interesting conversations. Also met a local furry who wasn't at Anthrocon but happened to be riding the T too.

After we took the T back to the hotel, [livejournal.com profile] marauderosu finished packing up and I bid farewell to him as he left to catch his bus out of town. And now I'm at The Zoo soaking up the post-con ambiance. Man, we ARE a noisy bunch! :)

I woke up pretty early in the morning because I'm a light sleeper and the sound of someone showering can apparently travel through the wall. So I took the opportunity to head out to Steel City Diner before the Anthrocon crowd and have some French toast. Then I went to masquerade rehearsal. I was in [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian's skit, "Oh noes teh drama", with [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian, [livejournal.com profile] mejeep, [livejournal.com profile] aquafoxzorro, [livejournal.com profile] axelwolf, [livejournal.com profile] bondage_husky, and [livejournal.com profile] syberfoxmi. Once it was our turn, we got up on stage and did the rehearsal. There were some problems to work out but I think trying this out once helped a lot.

After that, there was a bit of a slack period. I got ready for the fursuit parade by assembling my flag pole and New Jersey state flag. I was a bit delayed by the hotel elevator so I was running a bit late but still made it to the parade lineup before they started. I was in a group with the other state flag bearers. (I'm at 3:30 in this Youtube video.) I wore the husky fursuit for the parade but the raccoon fursuit for the masquerade rehearsal and the masquerade. Nice thing about bringing two costumes is I can alternate between the two so each costume has a chance to air out between wearings. Downside is those took up all the trunk space I had. :) But I digress. Anyway, the parade went out from the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom at the Convention Center, over the skybridge, down the escalators to the Dealer's Room, and then to Hall C for the big photoshoot. Fursuiter count in the parade was 640 according to @anthrocon.

I didn't have anything planned for the remainder of the afternoon after the parade, so I took a walk out to the Strip District and had beef ball pho at Vietnam's Pho. Went back to the hotel, wore the raccoon fursuit again, and went to the green room to get ready for the masquerade. Our skit was the 13th act, which I didn't for a moment think was unlucky. It's bad luck to be superstitious. :) I thought it actually went pretty well. Got some laughs from the audience. Aside from group actions, my part was to steal a plushie. I grabbed it and ran to one side of the stage. Fun! I noticed that this is the first time I wasn't nervous about being up on stage. As always, once it started, the act was over pretty quickly and we were back in the green room relaxing. At the end of the masquerade, we were all called back on stage for the curtain call. And that was that. Well, not quite. Each masquerade performer also got a special "Performer" Lexan badge. Pretty neat piece of Anthrocon memorabilia.

Late dinner again, so I went to Primanti Brothers in the Strip District for a bacon and cheese sandwich. It was really the only option as everything else that was still open after 9pm in downtown Pittsburgh looked decidedly subpar. One of the cooks at Primanti recognized me because I'd been there 3 times this week already. On my way back, I watched some 4th of July fireworks. I think these were unofficial though. A guy was launching those from an empty lot on Penn Avenue.

Woke up early because I had to go to Masquerade Rehearsal. I was in [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian's skit but I didn't know what it was until I got there and met up with him. (I'm living on the edge. :) ) Anyway, I got the skit info and it was "Cooking with Fur", a Swedish chef kind of skit. I was "chocolate moose" in the second part of the skit, where my part was to go out on stage wearing antlers and let the chef spread chocolate on me with a spoon. (pretend, of course) I was also in the last part of the skit where we all chased the chef around the table.

After rehearsal, I went to the panel on parade performance. It was a very short panel lasting all of 15 minutes. Then all the fursuiters had to gather in the ballroom to start the fursuit parade. It's a shorter parade this year than last year. We just went from the ballroom to the convention center balcony overlooking the river. Someone was on the other side of the river ready to take a group shot of all of us. While waiting for that to be done, we surprised a cruise boat and a bunch of kayakers in the river. After the photoshoot, we just went back to the ballroom. Parade count was 453.

Then I had lunch at Steel City Diner. Tried the meatloaf. After that, I went down to the car to get the repair kit and up to the room to fix a costume malfunction. Good thing I brought the sewing supplies. Then I headed back to the convention center for the Masquerade staging. While in the green room, we were informed that there was a weather emergency with tornado-like conditions and hail, and that we were supposed to stay away from windows. (Where did I hear that before? Oh yeah, on my last trip to the Poconos. And it turned out to be only rain.) The Masquerade went on as planned, with only a 15 minute delay to make sure the tornado didn't bring down the convention center. :) The skit I was in was up pretty early. I had no idea why I was nervous since this is my 3rd time in the masquerade. Once it began, I thought it went pretty well. We got some laughs out of the audience.

Dinner was at the Steel City Diner again. Spaghetti and meatballs this time. I'd wanted that since I saw someone order it in the afternoon. Returned to the hotel. Because of scheduling confusion the previous day, some fursuiters missed out on the fursuit-friendly dance at the convention center. So they made up for it with another fursuit-friendly dance this evening at the hotel. Very convenient! They promised two hours but it actually went for more than 3 hours. And it was fun. I was there in fursuit until the last song.
