First thing Friday morning, I dropped off my donation, which was the pair of FAO Schwarz ferret plush toys, at the charity raffle table. Then [livejournal.com profile] jbadger did a bunch of geocaches before breakfast. We did Rain Day and the rest were ones that I'd found in previous years but that [livejournal.com profile] jbadger had not gotten yet. Breakfast was at Tower Grill in downtown Waterbury. I had a western omelette.

In the afternoon, I went to the "Convention Horror Stories" panel. Also did a lot of fursuiting (in the husky fursuit) before going out for dinner, which was a sausage grinder at Nardelli's. At night, I went to the dance in fursuit. Midway through the dance, the fans in the headless lounge stopped working because a circuit breaker tripped. I decided it would be better to hang out outside where it was cooler. Went back to the dance from time to time but I felt a bit unwell so I figured it was time to call it a day.

Early Saturday morning, [livejournal.com profile] jbadger and I went and bagged the Snow Angels geocache. It was short and sweet. Then we went to La Fortuna restaurant in Wolcott. I had the 2 eggs and 2 pancakes special. We went back to the hotel and met up with [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian at the ballroom for masquerade rehearsal. Our skit this time was a Monty Python and the Holy Grail parody. Also in our skit were Syberfox, Mejeep, [livejournal.com profile] axelwolf, and Werwolf.

Rested a while and joined in the fursuit parade. (wore the raccoon fursuit) The parade went through the hotel but it wasn't too long and it ended with a photoshoot outside. After that, I went and had the individual photoshoot done in the green room. I didn't order the DVD this time but I think the photographer will be posting the photos online. Later in the day, I returned to the green room for masquerade prep. Our skit was the 5th one in the masquerade lineup so once it started, we didn't have to wait long before it was our turn. I had a fairly simple part as one of the "knights". I thought the skit went pretty well and we got quite a bit of applause from the audience. After the masquerade, [livejournal.com profile] jbadger and I went to Singo Sushi. We had the Love Boat.

I woke up pretty early in the morning because I'm a light sleeper and the sound of someone showering can apparently travel through the wall. So I took the opportunity to head out to Steel City Diner before the Anthrocon crowd and have some French toast. Then I went to masquerade rehearsal. I was in [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian's skit, "Oh noes teh drama", with [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian, [livejournal.com profile] mejeep, [livejournal.com profile] aquafoxzorro, [livejournal.com profile] axelwolf, [livejournal.com profile] bondage_husky, and [livejournal.com profile] syberfoxmi. Once it was our turn, we got up on stage and did the rehearsal. There were some problems to work out but I think trying this out once helped a lot.

After that, there was a bit of a slack period. I got ready for the fursuit parade by assembling my flag pole and New Jersey state flag. I was a bit delayed by the hotel elevator so I was running a bit late but still made it to the parade lineup before they started. I was in a group with the other state flag bearers. (I'm at 3:30 in this Youtube video.) I wore the husky fursuit for the parade but the raccoon fursuit for the masquerade rehearsal and the masquerade. Nice thing about bringing two costumes is I can alternate between the two so each costume has a chance to air out between wearings. Downside is those took up all the trunk space I had. :) But I digress. Anyway, the parade went out from the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom at the Convention Center, over the skybridge, down the escalators to the Dealer's Room, and then to Hall C for the big photoshoot. Fursuiter count in the parade was 640 according to @anthrocon.

I didn't have anything planned for the remainder of the afternoon after the parade, so I took a walk out to the Strip District and had beef ball pho at Vietnam's Pho. Went back to the hotel, wore the raccoon fursuit again, and went to the green room to get ready for the masquerade. Our skit was the 13th act, which I didn't for a moment think was unlucky. It's bad luck to be superstitious. :) I thought it actually went pretty well. Got some laughs from the audience. Aside from group actions, my part was to steal a plushie. I grabbed it and ran to one side of the stage. Fun! I noticed that this is the first time I wasn't nervous about being up on stage. As always, once it started, the act was over pretty quickly and we were back in the green room relaxing. At the end of the masquerade, we were all called back on stage for the curtain call. And that was that. Well, not quite. Each masquerade performer also got a special "Performer" Lexan badge. Pretty neat piece of Anthrocon memorabilia.

Late dinner again, so I went to Primanti Brothers in the Strip District for a bacon and cheese sandwich. It was really the only option as everything else that was still open after 9pm in downtown Pittsburgh looked decidedly subpar. One of the cooks at Primanti recognized me because I'd been there 3 times this week already. On my way back, I watched some 4th of July fireworks. I think these were unofficial though. A guy was launching those from an empty lot on Penn Avenue.

Woke up early because I had to go to Masquerade Rehearsal. I was in [livejournal.com profile] magnusdiridian's skit but I didn't know what it was until I got there and met up with him. (I'm living on the edge. :) ) Anyway, I got the skit info and it was "Cooking with Fur", a Swedish chef kind of skit. I was "chocolate moose" in the second part of the skit, where my part was to go out on stage wearing antlers and let the chef spread chocolate on me with a spoon. (pretend, of course) I was also in the last part of the skit where we all chased the chef around the table.

After rehearsal, I went to the panel on parade performance. It was a very short panel lasting all of 15 minutes. Then all the fursuiters had to gather in the ballroom to start the fursuit parade. It's a shorter parade this year than last year. We just went from the ballroom to the convention center balcony overlooking the river. Someone was on the other side of the river ready to take a group shot of all of us. While waiting for that to be done, we surprised a cruise boat and a bunch of kayakers in the river. After the photoshoot, we just went back to the ballroom. Parade count was 453.

Then I had lunch at Steel City Diner. Tried the meatloaf. After that, I went down to the car to get the repair kit and up to the room to fix a costume malfunction. Good thing I brought the sewing supplies. Then I headed back to the convention center for the Masquerade staging. While in the green room, we were informed that there was a weather emergency with tornado-like conditions and hail, and that we were supposed to stay away from windows. (Where did I hear that before? Oh yeah, on my last trip to the Poconos. And it turned out to be only rain.) The Masquerade went on as planned, with only a 15 minute delay to make sure the tornado didn't bring down the convention center. :) The skit I was in was up pretty early. I had no idea why I was nervous since this is my 3rd time in the masquerade. Once it began, I thought it went pretty well. We got some laughs out of the audience.

Dinner was at the Steel City Diner again. Spaghetti and meatballs this time. I'd wanted that since I saw someone order it in the afternoon. Returned to the hotel. Because of scheduling confusion the previous day, some fursuiters missed out on the fursuit-friendly dance at the convention center. So they made up for it with another fursuit-friendly dance this evening at the hotel. Very convenient! They promised two hours but it actually went for more than 3 hours. And it was fun. I was there in fursuit until the last song.
