Palisades Interstate Park
Sep. 15th, 2009 12:17 amAfter some catch-up work in the morning, I didn't have anything else planned for the day. So, after lunch, I went geocaching in the NJ Palisades area. The first one was TBT1, in a wooded area at the Dumont Nature Center. It's a two-stage cache. I couldn't find the first stage but I figured since I was there, I might as well walk the Trestle Bridge Trail to see where it goes. As I was walking on the trail, I noticed something a bit out of place. And that's where the 2nd stage was! Who needs coordinates anyway? :)
After that, I went to Palisades Interstate Park for How could you place a micro here?, NJCC: Zugspitze, NJCC: Blanc, and ThirstyMick's Scenic View. With the exception of "NJCC: Blanc", all those geocaches were along the turquoise-blazed Long Path. "NJCC: Blanc" is supposedly on the Shore Trail but I actually climbed down from Henry Hudson Drive because the Shore Trail was submerged by the tide. All together, that was over 3 miles of hiking, albeit with no significant changes in elevation so it wasn't too difficult.
I was planning to use a birthday coupon at Ruby Tuesday in Paramus but after that last geocache, I was headed in the wrong direction on Palisades Parkway. By the time I got to a median opening where I could turn around, I was already well on my way home. So never mind about that. I can always claim the free burger another night.
