Iron Hill

Sunny, 60-65°F. I figured it was a day in which I wouldn't be going very far because I had errands to run. After the bank errand (to deposit a surprise class-action settlement check), I headed over to the Glasgow area for lemonade for 2. Although right next to the road, this geocache was in the middle of a sticker bush. Fortunately, I was able to poke it out of there with a stick.

After that, I went to Iron Hill Park to do a long hike. I had the solution to This Cache is for the Birds, a puzzle cache, so I went for that one. I also did A Pretty Ammo Box, a multi-stage cache, since it was in the same part of the park. In retrospect, I should've done at least the first part of the multicache before getting the puzzle cache because I noticed that I crossed my track between stages of the multi. Therefore, I could've shortened the hike a bit. Nevertheless, the entire hike didn't take an excessive amount of time and with little or no brush in the woods there, all the off-trail portions of the hike were fairly easy.

After that, I had a late lunch at Arby's in New Castle in order to use a soon-to-expire mailing list coupon. I had two Jr. Roast Beef sandwiches. The odd thing was they gave me a kid's meal toy. No idea why.

Sunny then cloudy, 60°F. Much cooler weather today than it was yesterday. Had to drop off the yard waste and the yard waste collection site in Bear but after that, we went for a bunch of geocaches near the C&D Canal, one in Iron Hill Park, and two in Wilmington.

The last two cache sites were somewhat educational. "Aliens! 2" is in a park that is overrun by invasive alien plants. I don't know all the invasive species but I recognized the English ivy, privet, and garlic mustard. Privet is actually a common hedge plant back in the old country.

"A Cache for Whereabouts" is in Brandywine Springs Park, which used to be an amusement park in the early 20th century. Not much remains of the old amusement park structures but a historical preservation society has put up information boards explaining what used to be there.

Glasgow Park Sunny and 50°F. Returned to Glasgow Park today for 2 puzzle caches. I'd have done these yesterday had I remembered to work out the answers beforehand. But it's not a problem. Had to drop off some yard waste at the Mid-County Yard Waste collection site anyway, so Glasgow Park was just a bit of a detour.

Also returned to Iron Hill Park to do more geocaches. This time, it was a 1.6-mile round trip on the yellow trail for 4 geocaches. A bit of snow on the ground and some rolling terrain, but not too difficult a hike.
