Rainy Day Saturday
Oct. 28th, 2007 12:03 am
Wow! I blew off 3 events today. I had planned on going to a breakfast geocaching event in Horsham, PA. However, when I woke up at 6am, I saw the torrential downpour outside and figured it would be better to go back to sleep. Woke up quite a bit later in the morning. It was still raining heavily at the time, so I figured it wasn't worth rushing out to the Where's George lunch event in Bridgewater either. (I'd have been late to that one anyway.) Instead, I made pancakes. The 3rd event was a mascot gig at Stony Brook, which I hadn't planned on doing in the first place.
The rain stopped some time during the mid-afternoon. By that time, I couldn't really go very far so I went to Westchester. On my way to Westchester, I noticed that there was a new metal plate on the Tappan Zee Bridge. These metal plates are used to temporarily patch holes in the bridge. (I'm not saying that's a good thing.) There were also a few new suicide hotline "Life is worth living" signs that I didn't see last weekend. Funny that they should be adding all those suicide hotline signs now.
My first stop was in Saxon Woods County Park in Scarsdale for the Out of the woods - 2a (The next generation) geocache. It's a remake of the "Out of the Woods 2" geocache. It looks like the same hiding spot but I don't fully remember. After that, I went to Down By The Sound, which was in Davenport Park in New Rochelle. I was disappointed at the behavior of the locals. A bunch of them practically blocked the whole road stopping their cars side by side just so that they could roll down their car windows and holler at each other in an ape-like fashion. Then, when I got to the park, I noticed a lot of dog poop on the grass, in spite of the "No Dogs Allowed" signs at the edge of the park. If they're going to break that law, they should at least have the decency to dispose of the feces properly.
On my way home, I went to Palisades Center in West Nyack. Perhaps because of the rain, the mall wasn't as crowded this evening as it usually is on a Saturday. I had no problem finding a parking space anyway.
